UEFA Champions League semifinals odds 2018: Real Madrid vs. Bayern Munich picks from model up 1,800 percent

Soccer fans get a Wednesday treat when back-to-back Champions League winner Real Madrid visits Bayern Munich in the first leg of the 2018 Champions League semifinals at 2:45 p.m. ET. Bayern is favored by half a goal, unchanged from the opening line. Bayern is +102 on the money line, meaning you would have to wager $100 to win $102. The over-under, or total number of goals oddsmakers think will be scored, is three.
Before you bet on this battle of juggernauts, you need to see what renowned European soccer expert David Sumpter has to say.
Sumpter is an applied mathematician who wrote Soccermatics, the book that shows how math works inside the game. Together with experienced analysts, Sumpter developed the powerful Soccerbot model.
Sumpter's Soccerbot reads current odds and all team performance data, calculates key metrics and predicts upcoming matches. In the two-and-a-half seasons since it was born, the Soccerbot is up 1,800 percent on bookmakers' closing odds. That's right -- 1,800 percent.
Now, he has set his sights on Wednesday's Champions League fixture between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid and his picks are in.
Sumpter is leaning toward the total going under, but what about betting the money line and against the spread?
Sumpter knows this game will go a long way in determining who advances to the Champions League final.
These two European giants have met 24 times in the Champions League. The head-to-head record is even at 11-11-2, with Real Madrid barely edging Bayern in total goals during that span 37-36.
Bayern Munich, which just won its sixth consecutive Bundesliga title, has scored five or more goals in four of its past six games at home. Robert Lewandowski has led the attack for the Bundesliga giants, scoring 39 goals in 43 games in 2017-18.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid will be looking to secure its sixth consecutive away victory in Munich on Wednesday. Los Blancos are led by Cristiano Ronaldo, who has scored nine times in six appearances against Bayern. Ronaldo has a knack for the big stage, made evident by his current 11-game scoring streak in the Champions League.
Sumpter has identified where the value lies on the money line and against the spread.

Closing in at COTA: Marquez takes Texas, Dovi takes the lead

Marquez wins but five riders leave Austin within eight points at the top of the standings - and it's 'DesmoDovi' in P1

It’s closer than ever as the flag falls at the end of the Americas GP, with Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) taking the win and Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) taking the Championship lead as Texas shook up the standings. There are now five riders within eight points at the top of the title fight – with Marquez a point off the top after his win, and Maverick Viñales (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) moving up to third after a second place finish at COTA.
The Americas GP also made it back-to-back podium finishes for Suzuki, with Andrea Iannone (Team Suzuki Ecstar) putting in an impressive push from the front row to take third and his first rostrum finish of the season – and first rostrum with the Hamamatsu factory.
It was also Iannone who got the holeshot from second on the grid, but Marquez also got a stunner from Row 2 – slotting into second and on the chase behind the ‘Maniac’. Making his move soon after and taking the lead, the number 93 started to pull a gap – but Iannone wasn’t done, and gave it everything for a late dive up the inside of the reigning Champion. Running a bit wide on the exit, Marquez took him back – then putting his head down.
From there on out, the spectacular ballet of man and machine once more ruled the rodeo in Texas - with the victory making it ten consecutive premier class wins for Marquez on US soil.
Behind, however, it was getting pretty tight. Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) was pressuring teammate Viñales for third as Iannone held firm in second. But lap-by-lap, Viñales was able to ease away and stake his claim on P2 – closing in on Iannone before a well-judged pass into Turn 1 saw the Spaniard able to get through and then pull away. Keeping it calm, he took his first podium of the season in second, and Iannone did the same in third.
Rossi came home fourth, with Dovizioso taking fifth after a particularly difficult weekend. Well-rewarded for a solid race, the 2017 Runner Up is now the leader of the pack once again after his controlled performance, including a late race pass on Johann Zarco (Monster Yamaha Tech 3).
Zarco was top Independent Team rider in P6, with former Championship leader Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda Castrol) sliding out at the final corner when attacking the Frenchman earlier in the race. Alex RIns (Team Suzuki Ecstar) also then suffered a tumble soon after – riders ok and Crutchlow able to rejoin.
Meanwhile, Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda Team) followed up two stunning showings on Friday and Saturday to come home in a superhuman P7. Back on track and racing just over a week after surgery on his broken wrist sustained in the Argentina GP, the ‘Little Samurai’ rode a heroic push through the pain barrier around the punishing, technical challenge of the Circuit of the Americas in a performance worthy of the history books, taking home nine points ahead of the Championship’s return to one of his best venues: Jerez.
There was a Borgo Panigale battle around three seconds behind three-time World Champion Pedrosa, with Tito Rabat (Reale Avintia Racing) impressively beating Jack Miller (Alma Pramac Racing)  to the line for eighth. Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia Racing Team Gresini) completed the top ten, putting in an impressive push to keep Jorge Lorenzo (Ducati Team) behind him after a tough race for the five-time World Champion.
Danilo Petrucci (Alma Pramac Racing) took P12, ahead of some impressive points for Pol Espargaro and Red Bull KTM Factory Racing in P13. Takaaki Nakagami (LCR Honda Idemitsu) was top rookie in P14, ahead of Alvaro Bautista (Angel Nieto Team).
So there we have it. The rodeo is ridden and the points are given, and what a Championship we have on our hands as we head for Jerez: five riders within eight points, with ‘DesmoDovi’ the man in the lead on the road to Europe. Marquez trails him by one point, Viñales by five and Crutchlow by eight – with Zarco equal on points with the Brit, back in P5 due to Crutchlow having a race win.
Now, it’s carnival time. Packed grandstands, Spanish sun, the awesome Circuito de Jerez and one of the best atmospheres of the year – with the Championship so close, there’s almost nothing in it.

Marc Marquez: the story of a champion

Lengkapnya

A third premier class crown in four years for the 2016 MotoGP™ World Champion

The end of 2015 saw Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) lose the title of World Champion for the first time since moving into the premier class of motorcycle racing, as the historic battle between Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) took over at the top of the table and Marquez’ suffered his mistakes. Crashes, struggles and controversy marked the toughest year of Marquez’ premier class career – and 2016 saw the rider from Cervera stage an incredible comeback. Controlled, poised and willing to play the long game : this was the new Marquez, and he was here to take back his crown.
Marquez made his debut in the World Championship in 2008 at 15, and although his rookie season was curtailed by injury, he made headlines by achieving a podium result in just his sixth race. He picked up another podium result in 2009, before becoming 125 World Champion for the first time in 2010 -  winning an incredible ten of the last 14 races of the year.
In the Moto2™ class the following season, Marquez had a tough start before the Spaniard went on an incredible winning run, taking seven victories to hunt down the mammoth lead accrued by title rival Stefan Bradl – including a podium in Phillip Island from 38th on the grid. A crash in practice for the Malaysian Grand Prix then halted the season, and Marquez was forced to cede the title fight with serious problems with his eyesight. Not knowing whether the problem could be solved, Marquez had a tough off season with his career in doubt until surgery was able to correct the problem, and he was finally able to get back on the bike. When he did, he obliterated the opposition and took the 2012 Moto2™ World Championship on second asking – including a win from the back of the grid at the season finale Valencian GP.
Fresh from that historic win, the newly crowned Champion of the intermediate class then got to try his new MotoGP™ bike for the first time at the Valencia test – joining Repsol Honda and finding big shoes to fill as Casey Stoner retired.

Pedrosa writes another chapter of history in Misano

History can be an easy thing to remake when the cards fall right. 2016 in MotoGP™ has now rewritten it, but it's been anything but easy for those who have written their own chapters in the season that has now seen the most different winners in a single year since the dawn of the world championship in 1949. Chapter 8 was written at Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli and it was Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa holding the pen.

Pedrosa took his 29th premier class win and 103rd podium at the Italian track as he fought back up from a tough qualifying position on the third row, and in doing so kept his fantastic record of a race win in every year of his MotoGP™ career in tact. After a tough season and then a corner turned at the post-race test in Brno, the 'Baby Samurai' returned to the top step in spectacular style, taking first teammate Marquez, then the Movistar Yamahas of Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi as he charged for the flag and crossed the line with a healthy margin - aggressive, unstoppable and uncatchable in his race rhythm. And then there were eight.

"But then I realized I could catch Valentino..."Dani Pedrosa

Dani Pedrosa (P1): "I just tried to focus on my rhythm. I didn't have many options in the beginning, but once i was fourth I was on my own and i wasn't really losing or recovering. I new I could do a good race but little by little I could see I could start to catch. I didn't think about the victory until 10 laps to go…I wasn't thinking about the win, but then I realized I could catch Valentino. Once I got my rhythm with Marc and Jorge I knew that if I wanted to go with Valentino, I had to pass. I was worried at the start of the race because I'd never used this tyre in the hot conditions - only in the morning. But my feeling was good. On the start grid I was a bit nervous knowing I was the only one of us with that tyre choice but once I started I knew it was better for me.
"It's been hard and it's super to give my fans, team and family and friends something back for their support. I didn't enjoy some races recently, but this one I really did. We need to keep focused for the next race - we've seen that every one can be different. We need to keep our feet on the ground!"

Maverick rules Silverstone for a stunning maiden win

The year of history-making continues as Viñales takes an incredible first victory at the British GP

Maverick Viñales (Team Suzuki Ecstar) has taken a historic first win for Suzuki since their return to the championship, as the 2013 Moto3™ world champion was in a class of his own at the Octo British Grand Prix to become the seventh winner so far in 2016. Viñales, who got his first podium in Le Mans in the French GP, got a front row start and simply pulled away once clear at the front - putting in an incredible performance to cross the line over 3 seconds clear. After an almighty battle behind, it was home hero and pole sitter Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda) and Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) who completed the podium.
Iannone, after making his way to the front of the chasing group, then lost his Ducati with 6 laps to go and suffered a DNF, leaving Crutchlow in P2 and Rossi and Marquez to duel it out. With the Italian and the Spaniard the two men at the top of the championship - although Marquez 53 points clear - it was a battle royale for points, pride and supremacy as the two fought it out. With characteristic hard racing and some incredible moves from each, Marquez eventually broke away from his Italian title rival to close on Crutchlow - before running deep and dropping back behind teammate Pedrosa into P5, into another battle that he just won to come home P4. Pedrosa had a calmer ride than his teammate to the top five, but looked to have made an incredible leap forward in the setup of his Repsol Honda as he got back to the front.
Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) came home P6 in a solid ride despite having twisted his knee in a testing crash ahead of the event, with Aleix Espargaro on the second Team Suzuki Ecstar similarly riding after a recent injury to come home P7. Jorge Lorenzo crossed the line eighth after struggling for grip, with Danilo Petrucci (Octo Pramac Yakhnich) and Alvaro Bautista (Aprilia Racing Team Gresini) completing the top ten. Home hero Scott Redding (Octo Pramac Yakhnich) was the last to cross the line after a crash, with compatriot and replacement rider Alex Lowes coming home in P13 on the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 in a solid first MotoGP™ performance.
The grid now head for Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli for the next race, with Marquez still clear at the front despite Rossi taking a small amount of points back from the Spaniard's lead.

Twitter reacts to: Crutchlow's first win

The Twittersphere’s reactions to the number 35 taking a first British win in 35 years

It was a bit of a crazy day on Sunday at the Automotodrom Brno. Despite the absence of Lederhosen after the paddock left Austria, it was nevertheless still leathering it down. Rain all day? Check. The deck shuffled? Definitely check. And to top off all the drama of the day, it was Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda) who came through from fifteenth to cross the line for his first win – becoming the first British winner since Barry Sheene in 1981!
Twitter definitely had a few things to say about that – beginning with Jack Miller (Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS), who didn’t line up on the grid after a crash in Austria and watched the race as a fan. Don’t bother asking Jack for lottery numbers though, we already did.
BTW, there have now been 6 different MotoGP winners this year!
Congratulations across the two-wheeled spectrum flooded in yesterday…
Marquez definitely ‘won third place’ at CzechGP
Cal’s former teammate and all round MotoGP™ good guy was elated:
Speedy Reedy was expecting the ultimate Sheene homage!
…and here’s another British motorcycle racer who knows A LOT about winning!
It seemed the entire racing community put their hands together for Cal…
You know you did good when Mario Andretti pats you on the back.
This guy knows some stuff about winning, too:
As does one of Cal’s best friends and another blindingly fast Brit on two wheels:
Non-racing petrol heads & pretty massively famous fellas were watching the #CzechGP, too. Eric Bana wished he'd listened to #MysticMiller a little earlier...
*Insert witty Star Wars joke*
Last but not least, lead commentator for the MotoGP™ World Feed Nick Harris has seen it all now...
...and Derek Crutchlow is feeling the family pressure ahead of the #BritishGP, as his son comes home a winner!
See you at Silverstone!
