Dovizioso in top five despite engine problem

Andrea Dovizioso’s FP2 workout at the Gran Premio Red Bull de la Republica Argentina was disrupted by an engine problem, but that did not stop him from registering a top five Friday time on his second bike.

Dovizioso comes into the Argentina round on a high, having recorded his first podium with the Ducati Team in Texas just under a fortnight ago, so he is determined to maintain his good form.
However his Friday afternoon at Termas de Rio Hondo was not going according to plan as he pulled off the track early in FP2 with smoke pouring from the engine of his Ducati GP14. The Italian wasted no time in returning to his box via a scooter to subsequently go back out on bike two and lay down a 1’41.042 best effort.
That lap time put him into the Friday top five, though he will want to bridge the 1.729s gap to the rampant Marc Marquez who led the FP2 session. That aim applies to most of the premier class field and Dovizioso made his objectives clear on Friday evening.
He stated, “For sure the times will drop tomorrow, but we all have a big problem with tyre wear and at the moment it’s difficult to do 25 laps at the right pace. I hope the track conditions improve tomorrow. I set my time on a soft tyre, because when I was using the hard tyre I had a problem with the engine and had to change bikes.”
Reviewing his busy Friday, Dovizioso added, “It was a bit of a lively session for me. We didn’t have the opportunity to do many laps because of my Desmosedici’s engine problem, and on a new track you always need to do so. Despite this I managed to be fast here, and I think I’ve been able to interpret this track pretty well.”
