After winning the Moto3™ World title on Sunday Alex Marquez got an opportunity to sample the premier class on Monday, enjoying a few laps of the Valencia track riding the Honda RC213V alongside his brother Marc.
The test ride was a gift from HRC and Shuhei Nakamoto to the younger Marquez sibling for clinching the lightweight class crown this season.
Alex got some advice from his older brother Marc before they headed out on track from the Repsol Honda pit box, the siblings riding the machinery which successfully brought Honda the triple crown of Rider, Team and Constructors World titles in 2014. On track they were even joined by Yamaha’s nine-time World Champion Valentino Rossi for a while as the Italian took a look at Alex’s riding style.
Alex will begin his new chapter in Moto2™ later this week with a test in Jerez. He commented, “I am very happy to have tried the MotoGP bike. Yesterday I fulfilled one dream and today another came true. It’s not every day you can try a bike like this. I want to thank Honda and especially Shuhei Nakamoto for this time they have given me on track. It is a great gift for being Moto3 World Champion.”
“What impressed me most was the power with the bike. The feeling you get when you're on the straight is amazing and braking also. The gap from corner to corner is greatly reduced. Physically I finished a little tired. At first I was a little stiff, but I think I held up well. I enjoyed it like a little kid.”
